Haematoxylin & Eosin (H&E) Staining
View the overall structure and distribution of cells in your tissue samples with H&E staining
H&E staining is the staining of tissue sections with Haematoxylin, which stains cell nuclei blue, and Eosin, which stains the extracellular matrix, cytoplasm and other structures varying shades of pink. This allows visualisation of the structure, distribution of cells and morphological changes within a tissue sample.
The THL also offers the possibility to combine H&E staining with immunostaining to look at specific protein targets. This can be used to train AI algorithms to recognise features in H&E staining.
If you are interested in using any of the THL services please email thlenquiries@oncology.ox.ac.uk with the THL application form (downloaded here).
