The CRUK Oxford Development Fund
Cancer Research UK supports researchers at every stage of their career and are committed to facilitating more excellent science in Oxford.
Cancer Research UK support research innovation internally through the CRUK Oxford Centre Development Fund Scheme. The Centre is committed to supporting proof-of-concept research which is at too early of a stage for major grant support but has significant translational potential. We believe that by investing in this kind of blue-skies research we will be able to advance our research more rapidly and, hopefully, impact patient care.
We are also committed to increasing the funding support that our members receive and look to proactively identify areas of opportunity. We aim to expand our research facilitation support in the future and we believe this will result in more activity in Oxford.
About the fund
The aim of the Development fund is to provide short-term, pump-priming funds to support innovative, proof-of-concept cancer research. Often the projects we support are in too early of a stage to be competitive for major research support but have the potential to be with just a small amount of investment (<£15,000). Priority is given to projects with a clear translational trajectory, to early career researchers and for new collaborations between investigators.
Applications to the Development Fund are reviewed by the multidisciplinary Research Committee with support from previous awardees. The projects are ranked on criteria such as scientific quality, strategic relevance and translational potential, and feasibility. The Development Fund is considered one of the key successes of the Centre and we look to continue its evolution with the implementation of more targeted award schemes aimed at complementing CRUK’s new funding streams.
OTHER FUNDING
CRUK and other funding bodies run grants for a variety of cancer research areas, available to researchers at any stage in their career.
