Areas of interest
I am happy to be involved in any cancer related study, but I’m also particularly interested in:
- Early Diagnosis
- Bladder Cancer
- Breast cancer
Experience: Bladder Cancer
I was diagnosed with Bladder cancer in December 2018. I then had 12 weeks of chemotherapy, followed by major surgery to remove the bladder in April 2019
I also have other family members & friends who have been through cancer treatment.
Experience with cancer research
My working career has been spent in quantitative market research and I am now retired.
I joined the Oxford Cancer Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) team in 2019, mainly as a way of helping others on their cancer journey.
Since joining the team, I have been involved with various research projects and activities. As a PPI representative you are not expected to have in-depth knowledge of the research subject; the aim of the role is to make sure proposals, papers etc are understandable for the general population.
The majority of funding requires PPI input and there are always opportunities to help. The team is always on hand to offer advice and you can do as much or as little as you want. Personally, I find being a PPI member addictive.
The outcome of people with cancer is improving all the time and science has a huge role to play. Through research comes hope.
I am also a member of the Oxford Bladder Support Group (OBSG).
